I would have never guessed! |
The original homesteaders cabin in the area as well as a shepherds wagon. |
is well, it is well with my soul! |
Originally I had planned to spend the night here but plans change. |
Alaska, The Yukon, and Montana really seems like big country when you are riding and riding and riding through it!!! |
When I walk through these battlefields, my soul literally aches within as I ponder the events that took place here. |
Almost as far as the eye could see. |
They all had a name |
Innocent lost :( |
No matter where I stopped, they were there. |
These flowers were pretty and ugly at the same time. |
The Monarch Butterflies sure liked them. |
My motel room in Billings, I was lucky to get it. |
I much prefer these to the large chains. |
I stopped for breakfast at this cafe about a third of the way to Lewistown from Billings. |
It would get real busy once the churches let out. |
A very nice breakfast for $11.38 |
Marty keeps these pet deer so his guest can be entertained. |
They look pretty good for coming out of winter. |
Take a picture, it'll last longer. |
I wanted to see Marty's ranch so we got out his dirtbikes and rode the two hundred miles on them. After almost putting this bike down two or three times in some very snotty top soil, I finally did. |
The ground looks dry, but you can see the soft muck where my shoes tracked it up when I got away from the bike to take the pic. |
See those mountains at the end of the trail on the right. They are still patchworked with snow. |
This ride was guaranteed to make us sleep well that night. |
Fueling up at the only station for miles around. |
It would be easy to get lost forever |
About 95 miles into the ride we are getting close to his ranch now. |
I couldn't keep up and this was just once of several times that Marty had to head back and come looking for me. |
I think at this point we are only about a mile from the ranch |
Everything ahead of Marty for two and a half miles is his, and it extends for a mile off to the right of the road. |
His grandfather homesteaded these two and a half sections of land in 1920 |
These days he leases it to a cattleman neighbor. |
Time to start heading back |
There are several of these Minutemen Missal sites in Montana. |
When I was a kid I always though about building my own car from scratch. Marty did it! He built the molds to hand lay the fiberglass for the body. He built the frame by cutting up on old Chevy. Pretty cool considering he was still in high school. |
Not only that, he built another one for his friend. |
I told him if it was mine I would get it out and get it running again. He says he isn't so motivated. |
After washing the bikes and fueling them up we stopped by the DashIn diner for lunch. |
I was able to follow these instructions, but it took me a minute. |
While we were fueling at the station this guy pulled in and fueled also. A little later he also pulled into the lot and joined us for lunch. |
After I left Marty's I kept seeing these mauve colored fields. I kept thinking they were some form of alfalfa, but I don't know. |
Very pretty, if you know, tell me! |
Marty's brother Tom told me the Taco John's Beef Tostados were good. They were. |
Arriving at my grandson's house I was greeted by their new chickens. |
I think this is going to be the dominant one. |
At least with only two of them, the pecking order won't be very long. |
